Timeless Descent
Jeremy and I were with our families on vacation and we decided to get dressed to go to a movie. We were going to see King Kong and Narnia. While I was waiting on him, I went outside and decided to fly up into the trees. When I did, everything changed.
I flew high, high up into some pine trees. The higher I flew, the more timeless everything became. Instead of flying, I seemed to be merely drifting around the trees. There were four trees planted in a square.
As I circled the first two, I saw squirrels all through the limbs and started throwing nuts to them. They didn’t seem startled but just laid on their limbs. Everything seemed motionless. The third tree did not have normal branches. Each branch provided a floor for a room without walls. Each room contained a large wooden table. While circling the tree, I noticed one table had several large cats sprawled across the table relaxing.
I circled the fourth tree and decided to fly down across the field to some even large trees. I was so relaxed and peaceful, I forgot about the movie, about my brother, about everything. I simply glided through these enormous trees and enjoyed.
When I got up close to the next tree, I realized it would have no wildlife. This time the branches formed long flat trays, and upon each tray sat finely carved figures in jade. They were all different colors and shapes and there were many on each limb, so the tree contained thousands. It looked as though it had been there for ages.
At this time, I decided to fly to the bottom of the tree. When I hit the ground, I was in the middle of a giant hall and realized these trees were inside a humongous hall. Way up high in a windowsill, Kelly sat reading with the warm sun surrounding her.
I knew I was through exploring so I flew outside and began descending into a valley below. As descended, I noticed this community with several layers of living quarters and gardens stacked on top of each other. I knew these were poor people living in the shadow of the great hall. Part of me wanted to fly over and investigate, but I couldn’t. I knew I had to fly down lower.
At the bottom of the valley was a great lake. As I got closer to the earth, I could see people getting out of the water. Then at an even closed point, I noticed they were wearing fancy robes with bright colors and they all were some kind of Chinese warriors. Their faces were painted white and their hair was tied in the back.
When they noticed me flying overhead, they started shouting and then began trying to shoot me out of the sky with their arrows. I knew they might hit me, so I landed. As I hit the earth, I left a trail of fire and slid into the water. Knowing they had sent their dogs after me, I began swimming as fast as possible.
Eventually the dogs caught up with me but ran right by me, because they didn’t seem to notice me. Then it seemed at though all the warriors ran over me. When I finally sat up, I realized I no longer in the water but in the middle of a busy interstate with cars zipping past me.
